JLP 2020 is currently planning its 2020 program for MHS Year 10 students which will be launched in the Memorial Hall early next month at the annual Symposium for Year 9 MHS and MacRob GHS students, at which two MHS Old Boys and one Palladian will be presenting their post-school personal and professional experiences and perspectives on leadership.
From the feedback received from past participants (students) and their Group Leaders (Old Boys) in the JLP program, and as a result of direct interest and encouragement from MHS and MGHS and the 2019 Palladian Executive, two enhancements to the JLP will be offered in 2020.
The first is the addition of a sixth module to the program that inquires into “Ethics in Leadership”, an aspect that has been capturing growing concern in recent times in many domains of life at all levels.
The second is the recognition and call for gender inclusivity into the program by extending the involvement of Palladians beyond the symposium delivery, and into the classroom inquiries as collegiate Group Leaders to assist our OBA GLs. The Palladian GLs will also serve as chaperons for a select few MGHS students to participate in classroom sessions with MHS students so that they may assist the MGHS community in assessing the implications and/or feasibility for their own leadership inquiries and/or opportunities within their own school, or in future JLP programs in some way.
Both enhancements for JLP 2020 will provide GM&B with a practical opportunity to:
- add immediate value to the 2020 student and GL learning in 2020
- serve as a feasibility exercise for Palladian Leadership and GM&B to measure Palladian interest and potential for further levels of involvement beyond 2020 within their school, or in conjunction with MHS and/or the GM&B JLP 2021
- invite inclusion of a small cohort (carefully selected and easily manageable in number) of Palladians and Macrob students whose purpose will be to evaluate the program and its relevance to MGHS student aspirations.
- obtain feedback from the Yr 10 participants (60 x MHS and 6 x MGHS) and GLs (30 x OBs and PALLs) that will provide powerful data to assist in determining future relevance, potential and feasibility of increasing levels of inclusion from 2021, or not.
- identify inhibitors to any gradual increase of MGHS infusion into the JLP program that will also inform decisions in next year’s planning of the 2021 program.
We look forward to the JLP 2020 with great interest, and most appreciative of the encouragement received from both school communities and their alumni.
JLP 2020: We Need Your Support
MHSOBA and the Palladians are looking for ex-MHS and ex-MacRob students to join us as Group Leader for the Junior Leadership Programme 2020 (JLP 2020). The pilot program started in 2013 at the request of MHS Principal Mr. Jeremy Ludowyke. The initiative was well received and has evolved ever since. Currently in its seventh year, JLP has the full support from both schools and will start with a Leadership symposium during the Year 9 academic year, followed by six group sessions in Year 10 in the following year.
Where you fit in:
Your participation as Group Leaders will provide guidance and support to small groups of Year 10 students in their journey and discovery of Leadership. Each session has been designed around a theme with discussion and activities, allowing group leaders to explore and conduct discussion with students. Your time as a secondary school student and real life experience outside is what we are looking for as Group Leaders. You will also get to learn a lot about yourself being role models and leaders in group sessions. Training will be provided by the Green, Maroon & Black Patrons’ Club of MHSOBA.
What would be required from you?
Attend a 2-hour training session on Tuesday 28th January 2020 (5.00pm -7.00pm) at MHSOBA Unicorn Club. You will be provided with tools, activities and an overview of the JLP whilst getting to know each other.
Available for at least THREE of the SIX sessions (3.30 to 5.00pm) at MHS:
11 Feb 2020 – Introduction
25 Feb 2020 – Communication
10 Mar 2020 – Style of Leadership
24 Mar 2020 – Developing as a Leader
21 Apr 2020 – Ethics and Leadership
28 Apr 2020 – (Summary and Student Presentation 5pm onwards)
We are very keen for a core group of Group Leaders available for ALL SIX sessions to provide continuity for the entire JLP 2020
You will need to comply with a Working With Children Checks (WWCC), which will be administered by MHSOBA on behalf of JLP as a volunteer organisation
JLP 2020 Presentation
